Incepted in 2008, the Chandigarh Bird Club dedicated itself to its goal of protecting the environment.
The Club owes its existence to those few dedicated and expert members, who started this Club in the Chandigarh Boat Club, namely Navjit Singh, Narbir Kahlon, Mrs Rima Dhillon, Mrs Sarbjeet Kaur, and Mrs Geeta Goswami.
Aims and objectives of the Club are:
- To study native birds, avian habitats, impart knowledge about them to citizens and work for the conservation of avian species and their habitats.
- The study the migrant birds, their migration patterns and migration seasons.
- To catalogue all the birds species, both native and migrant, which inhabit or visit this region.
- To arrange exhibitions, lectures and discussions on the best means to achieve the objectives.
- To affiliate educational institutions located in tri-city region and educate children and youth about the birds of this region, their identification, their importance and need as well as methods of conservation.
- To publish the findings, research projects, species lists, books as deemed fit by the committee from time to time, within the framework of the act.
- To arrange ‘Bird Walks’ or field trips for bird watching from time to time.
